Stabilizers

Many polymers degrade under influence of heat, light and oxygen, i.e. by chemical reactions the polymer chain is disrupting. Therefore the mechanical properties and appearance changes partially substantial. By addition of specificially suitable stabilizers this can be inhibit over a long period of time. In this connection one differs between processing stabilizers, which counteract against polymer degradation in the melt stage (compounding, extrusion, injection moulding), long-term heat stabilizers, which counteract against polymer degradation under elevated service temperatures (60 - 130°C) of the finished parts, high temperature stabilizers, which are active up to 180°C, as well as UV-stabilizers as efficient protection of the finished parts against polymer degradation through UV-radiation. Combinations of different types of stabilizers result in additional synergistic effects.
