New High Performance Additives for Polyolefin Recyling

BRUGGOLEN® R8897 and BRUGGOLEN® R8899 help to tackle the challenge of PP/EPDM post-consumer recycling

Beyond the electrification, the coming European legislation to improve the circular design and end-of-life vehicles (ELV), is dramatically changing the whole automotive industry and supply chain. An increasing number of recycled materials needs to be present in new cars. Therefore, innovative stabilization solutions are requested to bring post-consumer waste (PCR) streams towards better stabilization so that they can be used in new car applications.

Front and rear bumpers represent by far the heaviest plastic parts in the car. Those bumpers are typically made from PP/EPDM compounds. Being the easiest part to dismantle from end of life vehicles (ELV), they are getting now more and more attention.

Within this context, Brüggemann has been partnering with key recycling and re-compounding partners to develop state of the art additives to allow the PP/EPDM from ELV’s to enter high added valued automotive applications.

BRUGGOLEN® R8897  and BRUGGOLEN® R8899 are new thermostabilizer developed by Brüggemann specifically to improve the properties of PP-EPDM recyclates from front-end applications. As the benchmark in its class, it is based on an innovative chemical concept that ensures excellent retention of mechanical properties during long-term heat ageing. Laboratory tests show an improved level of residual Charpy impact after long term heat aging.
