Commis­sioning of New Biomass Heating Plant at the Heil­bronn Site

With the commis­sioning of its new biomass heating plant in 2023, Brugge­mann will change its energy supply at the Heil­bronn site from fossil to renew­able energy sources. In future, we will use about 15,000 metric tons of biomass per year to cover our heating require­ments. 

With our innov­ative biomass heating plant, we not only focuse on effi­cient energy gener­a­tion, but also create a signi­ficant bond to sustain­ab­ility. The CO2 emis­sions of our products is decreasing consid­er­ably. 

In turn our customers profit directly, redu­cing their carbon foot­print and bene­fiting by supporting their sustain­ab­ility goals. Brugge­mann creates a future where advanced chem­istry and sustain­able thinking are the essen­tial bond.

More Sustain­ab­ility with Redu­cing Agents – Intro­duc­tion of Brügge­mann's New Devel­op­ments at the ECS 2023

The European Coat­ings Show (ECS), delayed by two years due to the pandemic, took place along with the European Coat­ings Show Confer­ence from March 28th – 30th in Nurem­berg. After three intense days, this important trade fair revolving around the produc­tion of paints, varnishes, seal­ants, construc­tion chem­icals, and adhes­ives ended on a high note, with everyone at Brügge­mann with a smile on their face.

High-perform­ance Addit­ives for Poly­amides and Recycled Poly­ol­efins

Brügge­mann is presenting perform­ance-enhan­cing additive innov­a­tions at K 2022. These range from elec­tric­ally neutral heat stabil­izers for poly­amides in elec­trical and elec­tronic applic­a­tions, for example for e-mobility, to high-perform­ance stabil­izers for exposure to moderate to very high temper­at­ures and addit­ives for stabil­izing recycled poly­ol­efins. A further focus is on effi­ciency-boosting flow enhan­cers which enable shorter cycle times and low wall thick­nesses for compon­ents made of poly­amides and poly­es­ters (PBT).

New activ­ators from Brügge­mann presented at the DKT

The German Rubber Confer­ence (DKT), which was post­poned by one year due to the pandemic, took place together with the Inter­na­tional Rubber Confer­ence (IRC) from June 27th to 30th, 2022 in Nurem­berg. After four intensive days, this important trade fair for the rubber industry ended on a very positive note and with great satis­fac­tion on the part of all those repres­enting Brügge­mann.

The Brügge­mann Insti­tute of Redox Chem­istry at the 2022 ACS

Over 7,000 visitors, 365 exhib­itors and 650 confer­ence parti­cipants: A strong and successful comeback of the Amer­ican Coat­ings Show and Confer­ence after the inter­rup­tion due to the Covid-19 pandemic made Indi­ana­polis the center of the coat­ings industry this spring. From 5th to 7th April 2022 Brügge­mann parti­cip­ated in the ACS and took the oppor­tunity to intro­duce their Insti­tute of Redox Chem­istry to inter­ested trade fair parti­cipants.

e-Orange is the new black for E-Mobility

In order to avoid over­heating our planet all coun­tries aim to decrease signi­fic­antly their green­house gas emis­sions. A major contrib­utor to one of these gasses, CO2, is the auto­motive internal combus­tion engine. This is forcing the car industry to reduce its reli­ance on such engines by moving towards hybrid and battery elec­trical vehicles. Such a move presents its own set of prob­lems, however, one of which is the pres­ence of very high voltages, high enough to be dangerous to anyone working on these cars. The industry is mitig­ating this danger by clearly identi­fying the pres­ence of high voltage compon­ents, coloring them in easily visible orange.

The demand for natural cosmetics is rising steadily. In Germany, sales rose by 23% between 2017 and 2020 (Statista). Our subsi­diary Brügge­man­n­Al­cohol has also observed this trend. As a manu­­fac­turer of alcohol for the cosmetics industry, we recog­nize that aspects such as sustain­­ab­ility, health aware­­ness and trans­­par­ency are becoming increas­ingly important for consumers.

Optim­iz­a­tion of the process for the post-reac­tion of polymer disper­sions

Polymer disper­sions are used in emul­sion paints, water-based paints and similar coating formu­la­tions. Manu­fac­turers of these polymer disper­sions have so far been able to contribute to lower contents of volatile organic compon­ents (so-called VOCs) in the corres­ponding end product by removing the residual monomers in the disper­sion. This prevented negative effects such as odor or yellowing and signi­fic­antly reduced envir­on­mental pollu­tion. However, the long reac­tion times proved to be a disad­vantage with this method. Brügge­mann has there­fore developed a process that enables manu­fac­turers of polymer disper­sions to reduce produc­tion costs while short­ening reac­tion and process times.

Solu­tions for E-mobility Require­ments through Polymer Addit­ives

A major contrib­utor of CO2 is the auto­­motive internal combus­­tion engine. Both light weighting and hybrid­­iz­a­­tion see the use of smaller engines which tend to run at much higher temper­­at­ures. This makes protec­­tion of their poly­­meric compon­ents, normally poly­­­amide based, much more complic­ated. Elec­trical vehicles, on the other hand, through their high elec­tric current loads create different diffi­­culties. The Polymer Addit­ives busi­­ness of Bruegge­­mann has risen to meet these chal­lenges.

They are less fancy than design elements made of ther­mo­plastic or ther­moset plastic, but without them things just don't run smoothly. Elast­omers: elastic, dimen­sion­ally stable, extremely resistant to aging, temper­ature, pres­sure and chem­icals, mostly black and often used in a variety of ways behind the scenes - but tech­nic­ally no less demanding!

Circular Economy - What does sustain­able raw alcohol procure­ment look like at Brüggemann­Alcohol?

Printing on recycled paper, reusable cups in the coffee kitchen and busi­ness car sharing for employees - companies imple­ment a wide variety of meas­ures to make their processes sustain­able. Upcyc­ling of Poly­amides: Material Recyc­ling of Fishing Nets 

The EU action plan for the Circular Economy targets an increase in polymer recyc­ling quotas. Due to the versatile nature of poly­mers, the damage suffered during processing and different levels of contam­in­a­tion, industry has developed many different tech­no­lo­gies in order to enable reuse. BRUG­GOLEN® M1417 from Brügge­mann adds a new pathway for material recyc­ling. It allows, for example, a recycler to convert certain used fish nets into polymer chip suit­able for standard injec­tion molding.
